  1. ‚Ä¢ Responses are more frequent as larger doses are given, but higher doses cause unacceptable side effects much
  2.   more often. Some physicians start their patients at a low dosage of interferon and gradually increase it. This
  3.   appears to result in fewer side effects when the higher dosage is eventually reached, but obviously the KS
  4.   takes longer to respond.
  5. ‚Ä¢ Studies of interferon plus chemotherapy have failed to produce any consistent improvement over either agent 
  6.   used by itself.
  7. ‚Ä¢ AZT has been added to interferon with some suggestion of increased effect.
  8. ‚Ä¢ Because one of the most worrisome side effects of chemotherapy is the depression of white blood cell counts, 
  9.   with the risk of subsequent infections, G-CSF or GM-CSF may help to maintain the blood counts so that 
  10.   adequate treatment may be given.
